Kho Liang Ie
Born in 1927 in Mageland, Indonesia, of Chinese parents, Kho Liang Ie came to the Netherlands in 1949 where he trained as an interior designer at the Rietveld Academy. In 1958 Ie was appointed aesthetic consultant and designer at Artifort. His strong influence transported Artifort into the top tier of the international furnishings market at a critical juncture in its development. Yet, perhaps, Kho Liang Ie's most lasting contribution was his successful effort to attract and recruit designers Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt. By securing and cultivating Paulin and Harcourt Ie helped expand Artifort into a visionary, internationally recognized company capable of transforming commercial and residential environments. Kho Liang Ie's lasting imprint on Artifort DNA can still be felt today and is evidenced in the exceptional products created by the company's contemporary designers.
